There are many ways in which Birthlink can help
After Adoption Information Line
Birthlink’s After Adoption Information Line is an easily accessible point of contact for all those seeking information and advice relating to adoption issues that affect adults.
Adoption Contact Register
Birthlink operate the Contact Register which invites adopted people and birth relatives to register their details in the hope that there will be a link allowing future contact.
National Records of Scotland
At the time of adoption legal documents are lodged with the Sheriff Court who granted the adoption order. We can help you track down and request your documents.
There are many types of records. We can help in sorting out which ones are which, locating their whereabouts, accessing them on your behalf and help you make sense of them.
We have a group of experienced and trained volunteers who will conduct a search on your behalf. Any resulting information is coordinated by a member of the Birthlink staff.
Many people feel very vulnerable when contemplating an approach to the person sought. The use of a third party as a go-between gives everyone a better chance of a successful contact.
Whether you are an adopted person, a birth parent/relative, or an adoptive relative, we can offer you the chance to be heard in a safe and confidential environment.
Adults who have been in care can have similar needs to people who were adopted, perhaps with issues of identity or looking for more information about their families of origin.
After Adoption Professionals Support Forum
Birthlink hosts a biannual Support Forum (AAPSF) which invites professionals from all over Scotland to participate in discussions relating to all aspects of After Adoption practice.
