Birthlink’s After Adoption Information Line is an easily accessible point of contact for all those seeking information and advice relating to adoption issues that affect adults.

Birthlink operate the Contact Register which invites adopted people and birth relatives to register their details in the hope that there will be a link allowing future contact.

Birthlink offer DNA testing and emotional support to adopted individuals who are unable to trace birth family members using traditional genealogy record searching.

There are many types of records. We can help in sorting out which ones are which, locating their whereabouts, accessing them on your behalf and help you make sense of them.

We have a group of experienced and trained volunteers who will conduct a search on your behalf. Any resulting information is coordinated by a member of the Birthlink staff.

Mediation

Mediation Services

Many people feel very vulnerable when contemplating an approach to the person sought. The use of a third party as a go-between gives everyone a better chance of a successful contact.

At the time of adoption legal documents are lodged with the Sheriff Court who granted the adoption order. We can help you track down and request your documents.

Care Connect Service

Care Connect helps adults who have been in care to find information about their past or trace estranged family members.

Counselling Service

Counselling is delivered in blocks of 12 sessions, reviewed after every block. We are based in Edinburgh and can offer face-to-face sessions at our offices in Castle Street, although we can also arrange online counselling if this is preferred.

AAPSF

Birthlink hosts a biannual After Adoption Professional Support Forum (AAPSF) which invites professionals from all over Scotland to participate in discussions relating to all aspects of After Adoption practice.
