My journey throughout my life

One of our service users who came through Future Pathways has written a poem about her journey throughout her life, being in care and coming out a survivor. The poem came to her in the middle of the night and she says that she didn’t realise it’s true meaning until later when she was reflecting on her journey. She hopes that it might help someone else going through a similar situation.
My journey throughout my life

Everything I can imagine is real.

I cherish my visions and my dreams as they are the children of my soul, and the blueprint of my ultimate achievement.

I walk with the dreamers, the believers, the courageous, the cheerful, the planers, the doers, the successful people with their heads in the clouds and their feet on the ground.

Let their spirit light a fire within me to leave this world better than when I found it.

I was a victim. I am a victim no more; I am a survivor like a phoenix rising from the ashes of my former life.

I love the skin I am in now. I feel vibrant alive and in control, and my resplendent smile exudes hope and confidence.

My duty of care and responsibility as a woman, is to be good to myself, and to love to cherish my children, family, friends, and support others in their time of need.

My body is the landscape which shows the world “the way I am”.

I turn to face the sun every day and rejoice in the adventure of life and grow into being all I am capable of.

This is real. This is living. This is me.
