Walking Tours

Two heritage walking tours have been developed to tell the stories of some of the women helped by the National Vigilance Association in the early 20th century:

Stockbridge: This self-guided walking tour starts in Edinburgh’s New Town where the National Vigilance Association was formed in 1911 and takes you down into the pretty suburb of Stockbridge.

Hear about some of the girls helped by the NVA in the 1920s and listen to extracts from their letters held in the Birthlink Archive.

Edinburgh City Centre: Starting at 21 Castle Street, this self guided tour will take you up into the Old Town of Edinburgh, finishing in the bustling Grassmarket. Along the way you will hear about some of the girls helped by the NVA and visit the locations where women, men and children could find help and support in Edwardian Edinburgh.
