Margaret Cottage

After a large financial gift, the Guild opened Margaret Cottage in 1953, for eight children. It operated in the same ‘family’ style as Edzell Lodge, run initially by matron Miss Margaret Downing, for whom the cottage was named, until her resignation in early 1963. At this time the cottage was closed and the remaining residents moved to Edzell Lodge’s new building at Newbattle Terrace.
