Livingstone Hall Home for Friendless Girls

Livingstone Hall Home opened in October 1903 as accommodation for ‘friendless’ girls, explicitly excluding ‘fallen’ or drunken women. It was run by a Sister from the Primitive Methodist Mission who initially attempted to accommodate the girls in her own lodgings1. It moved to Warrender Park Road in 1906 and then Upper Gray Street in 1912. It sought to keep women out of rescue homes and shelters, and was careful not to associate itself with those institutions2.
