Edinburgh Home for Babies and School of Mothercraft
The Edinburgh Home for Babies and School of Mothercraft, also known as Avenel, opened at 30 Colinton Road in 1918. It gained a School of Mothercraft in 1922, which ‘offered practical training… in parenting skills to prospective mothers’1. In 1979, the Home closed and founded The Avenel Trust, which awards grants to parents to help care for children, and is still in operation today.
