Mary Hunnybun
Mary Hunnybun was the Central Organiser of the Scotch Episcopal Church Board for Prevention and Rescue Work (based in Edinburgh) during the 1920s. In this role she referred young girls and women to the NVA (Eastern Division) for assistance to find accommodation and work.
The Scottish Episcopal Church became involved in moral welfare work when it established its Social Services Board in 1919. This aimed to undertake rescue and probation work as well as the promotion of temperance from alcohol. The Board also oversaw the work of St Andrew’s House, Joppa and St Ronan’s Home for Unmarried Mothers in Dundee. In 1921 the Social Services Board appointed an Organising Secretary, which although not explicitly stated, we can presume to be Mary Hunnybun (Higson, 1955).
Mary Hunnybun worked for in this role until 1927 when she moved to Newcastle to undertake similar work as the Diocesan Secretary for Prevention and Rescue Work (Anon, 1928).
